Another successful Canadian Kawasaki Motors - NSORRA hare scramble season!
We averaged over 100 competitors at each of our four events and had wonderful support from our sponsors, landowners, volunteers and members
Round 1 - Craigmore Creek
Round 1 was July 16 at Craigmore Creek, Cape Breton which gave us time to prep the trails. Thanks again to all that take time to help us in the woods and at our events. Because we held our first scramble late, we had time in June set aside to do a few events that built towards the race season. The Women in Moto and Drive to Ride events were awesome, and helped get people out on their bikes and enjoying the amazing trails and track at Mill Hill.
Craigmore Creek is one of my favorite events. We encourage people to camp which really creates a good atmosphere with the mountain and trails on one side and absolutely beautiful ocean views on the other side. We had people arrive early and start to prep the trails as usual. The park has changed quite a bit in the last few years. We have been working hard to reclaim old trails plus build new ones.
We had over 100 registered riders for the event and the weather was with us. We couldn't have asked for a better race weekend, the trail/track was prime; the only real issue was the dust storm created at the start area. The race was a huge success, having little to no injuries to speak of and we really cleaned the place up.
Our great landowner was happy and we even had a local hotdog cart show up to feed the crew. The trails and parking area were left in better shape than they have been in some time.
Round 2 - South Alton
Round 2 was held on August 7 at South Alton and was hosted by the Parkinson family. A big shout out to these amazing landowners who are really true ambassadors of the sport we love, from cutting the grass to standing on the podium at many events over the years. Thank You!
South Alton is a gem of a ride park and keeps getting better. This year, the weather was on the hot side of the summer, the driest I have ever seen South Alton. It turned out to be the hottest weekend of the summer. The morning of the race, it was almost 30 degrees and continued to climb throughout the day, reaching a high of 42 with humidity and stayed there until 7pm.
More than 100 racers braved the heat and the course held up. It was fast and dry, the racers had to manage their output in the heat. Turned out to be an awesome day, super fun having great sponsor Shore Cycle and Marine on hand running a fundraising BBQ for NSORRA rider Marijke Nel for her #conquestforcancer and #LiftCancerFighters campaigns. Shore Cycle really knows how to show support of the association and they sponsored each of the top three winning riders in our Expert class. Great Event.
Round 3 - Hiltz Road
Round 3 was held on August 28 at Hiltz Road in the Annapolis Valley. Owned by the Lacey family, the property has been great and continues to expand and surprise the riders with varying terrain and conditions. It can get slick for sure, but it's a great trail through a beautiful forest.
Hiltz Road has tough parking limitations but we had a crew of amazing volunteers clean up the road sides. This helped the crowd of over 100 racers that came out to give it a go. The fans showed up and the area was buzzing.
The day was so much fun, the conditions made it tricky but fun and challenging at the same time. We even had an electric bike show up and make a strong showing in the Intermediate Class. The crew was hitting our stride and it really felt good to bring together events like this. Thanks to the NSORRA volunteers, racers and families that make these events possible.
Round 4 - Miller Meadow
Round 4 was held on September 17 at Miller Meadow. The weekend was set, the final race of the season. MMMXP is the closest park to the city, with quite a history of bringing the participants out. We set up the longest, and likely the hardest course of the season. We used the whole place, in the main event.
Miller Meadow race prep started early in the season to ensure they were ready for race weekend. Course prep was a fun day with really great help allowing us to put together an epic lap. We brought back the enduro cross section. It was a hit, especially when the School Kids and Super Mini kids who didn't have to ride it. But almost all did not only attempt it, they nailed it!
The rest of the day was full of fun and excitement. So many happy people, just enjoying the moment, testing their limits and pushing forward. The day was a huge success! Thanks to all the people keeping Miller Meadow in prime condition.

We are in the process of booking the awards event. Tentative date is Saturday, November 5 (TBC).

David Tobin is NSORRA’s Vice President and Race Director. He is fantastic at building trail and putting together outstanding hare scramble events. His great personality and positive outlook have made him a favourite among his peers, especially those in the race community. Dave continues to be a vital member of the association.
