Honda Canada - NSORRA Hare Scramble 1 at South Alton
Weeks of rain didn’t stop 90 competitors from arriving bright and early at South Alton to compete in the season’s first hare scramble, sponsored by Honda Motorcycles Canada. Coming from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, participants arrived with trailers in tow, carrying bikes that have rarely seen dry land this spring.
Luckily, three days of non-rain and sun dried out the trails enough for us to go ahead with the event. Course marshall Dave Tobin worked with landowners Richard and Steve Parkinson and a team of volunteers to ensure a good course was put in place.
New classes this season
This year’s scramble series, presented by title sponsor Soles In Motion, includes several new classes. In order to encourage riders to progress through riding levels, School Kid (7-11) is split by age with the older kids racing Super Mini (12-16).
The Junior class is broken up as well with the new Junior class including ages 14 to 25 followed by the new age group of 25+. Referred to as a Sportsman class, the 25+ class allows riders to compete in a shorter ride of an hour rather than in the more competitive afternoon rides.
Our two additional categories this season are Junior Women (10-16) and Vintage. We hope these changes assist in the growth of our sport.
