Both hands on your helmet! A pause as anticipation rushes down the start line. Then…the flags wave furiously and they’re off – racing for the holeshot line!
This is a familiar scenario to those who have ever attended a NSORRA hare scramble. Sometimes the race director switches things up and tells racers to put their hands on their front fenders.
Other start line ideas are bouncing around and this just adds to the excitement of each race, as riders position themselves in what they believe is the perfect spot for a great start. It’s always fun for those watching and cheering for their favourite riders.
Back together again – Soles In Motion Hare Scramble 1 at South Alton
Our NSORRA hare scramble family will be back together again as the season kicks off at South Alton on Saturday, July 29. We are happy to have Soles In Motion, our title sponsor, joining us at the event.
Richard and Steve Parkinson have been in the woods with a crew of NSORRA volunteers to make sure the trails are in good shape.
Always a challenging course, Race Director Dave Tobin and his team worked magic in the woods to ensure that riders have to keep on their pegs to ensure success in their race.
Registration is now open for Hare Scramble 1 at https://nsorra.ca/events
Race t-shirts
We have always called NSORRA members our family, and it’s a big one! This year’s t-shirt design is reflective of family with adult male and female riders joined by a boy and girl on their bikes. NSORRA is a welcoming community to all, committed to providing an environment that values diversity, equality and dignity.
Truro Motorsports has returned as our Holeshot Sponsor again this year. There is only one way to get one of these shirts – you have to WIN it! Looking forward to seeing who takes home these red shirts this season.
Canadian Kawasaki Motors Hare Scramble 2 – Hiltz Road ORM Park
Keen volunteers were on the trails early in the preseason and after a NSORRA work and ride crew spent a day there, the trails were opened for our members. Thanks to landowner Sean Lacey for allowing us to develop a wonderful trail network for our members on his land. This is a popular ride site and there are great shots to be had at the start line.
Thanks to Canadian Kawasaki Motors for sponsoring this scramble. They will have Park Street RV representing them on site.
Valley Yamaha-Suzuki Drive to Ride – Mill Hill Ride Park
Making it a full NSORRA weekend, our annual Drive to Ride will take place on Sunday, July 30 at Mill Hill and will be sponsored by Valley Yamaha-Suzuki. Landowner Blaine Prest has opened the park to camping for the weekend so racers have an opportunity to relax after the Hiltz Road scramble and set up for fun at the Sunday event on the Mill Hill trails and MX track.
Cabot Powersports Hare Scramble 3 – Craigmore
The last weekend of summer is a great time to hold the Craigmore Scramble. Always held on a Saturday – in this case, August 26 – Craigmore is always a challenging course, with riders having to work hard to come out on top, and sometimes even to finish! We welcome Cabot Powersports as a first-time event sponsor. They have promised some great draw prizes for racers.
Post race, Craigmore becomes a giant campground for riders to hang out with friends and enjoy some great food while watching the sunset over the ocean. Don’t be surprised to hear a few musical instruments and singing as everyone kicks back and relaxes.
Shore Cycle and Marine Hare Scramble 4 – Beaver Ride Park
Closing the hare scramble season will be a race at NSORRA’s newest ride park. Located in Economy, Nova Scotia, landowner and NSORRA member David Beaver has been hard at work developing a challenging long course. As one member mentioned, make sure you eat your Wheaties before taking on this one! At this time, we are not sure when the park will be open but we will be sure to let you know!
Of course one of the highlights of this scramble will be having Shore Cycle and Marine as the event sponsor. Cathy and Fred always host a fabulous barbecue and make it a fun event.
Thank you to our trail builders!
Thanks first have to be handed out to our volunteers. Trails are built and maintained across the province by dedicated trail builders and NSORRA members do their fair share of work. Though we don’t always hear about it, know that if you are riding a trail, someone was there before you making it happen!
2023 NSORRA Sponsors – Thank you!
We also have to thank the sponsors who come on board to support NSORRA. As a non-profit, we would not be able to hold events for our members without these sponsors. We ask you to take a look at this list and make a point of visiting and using your purchasing dollars at these places that make a point of supporting NSORRA.
