Yarmouth Riders host Rallye Motoplex-NSORRA Rec Rides
NSORRA members have been invited to ride the trails in the Southwestern part of the province during two ride days in September.
Day 1 – Saturday, September 7
The first ride day will begin just outside Yarmouth on a network of single track, double track, motocross track, downhill mountain bike track and hill climbs. The ride will be intermediate level, with some more difficult/challenging sections. All of the more challenging sections are optional; riders do not need to pass through these obstacles to complete the course.
There is approximately 18 km of trail, with some connections via the Rails to Trails system. The total ride length is 25-35 km, depending on pit stops at each location. The riding areas are spread out, but interconnected via the trail network.
Much of the single-track weaves through trees along soft terrain and ridge lines, some fast-paced, some slower and more technical. Double track consists mainly of old ATV and tractor roads though additional trail will be cut leading up to the event which may replace some of this portion.
The motocross track is a medium-sized track built out of hardpan in a woodlot. It features tabletops, step-ups, step-downs and rhythm sections. The mountain bike section is a network of fast pace downhill trails featuring jumps and banked turns.
There is plenty of space for parking/unloading. We will return to the parking area mid-ride for refueling, lunch/water breaks, as the parking area is in the middle of the ride areas.
Check out this YouTube video showing a few clips of the ride area.
Day 2 – Sunday, September 8
Touring the backwoods of Yarmouth & Digby counties will be the focus of Day 2. The area consists of flowy double track and ATV roads connecting several landmarks. There are various points of interest along the proposed route, such as New France (known as Electric City, the first place in Nova Scotia to have electricity), the balancing rock, and a series of dams & lakes which offer interesting ride terrain.
This ride is considered low-level intermediate, with all of it rideable by street and trail bikes (dualsports). The total length of the ride is upwards of 70 km. There is plenty of parking space to unload. Bring a light lunch with you as we will not be returning to the unload area until the end of the ride.
Future Riding
A large portion of the Day 1 trails are on private land (either owned by members of our riding group, or built with permission from the owners). These trails are on a “ride with permission” basis only.
The Day 2 trails are open year-round. If you plan to attempt these trails on your own, we recommend using a GPS, as there are many logging roads which look similar and can be confusing if you do not know the area well.
All riders should have registration & insurance since we will be travelling on some of the rails to trails which require this paperwork.
Registration
To register for either or both of the rides, please go to the NSORRA Events page at https://nsorra.ca/events
IMPORTANT NOTE: If the Saturday Ride must be cancelled for any reason, it will be rescheduled for Sunday and the scheduled Sunday ride may be postponed.
