NSORRA Rec Rides in Yarmouth Build Comraderie
The first two-day Yarmouth rec ride was a great success, providing both challenge and fun.
Day 1 – Saturday, September 7
14 participants, some local and some from away, gathered on Ride Day 1 with hopes that the weather forecast would come true. The rain began to break just in time for the ride to begin. The morning was filled with wet trails but the group persevered and traversed railroad track, logging roads, single tracks, and made their way to the motocross track.
Everyone had a chance to do some laps on the motocross track, despite the track being soft and muddy from the rain. The ride group headed back for lunch with the sun peeking out, and enjoyed a barbecue provided by our Yarmouth hosts.
Saturday afternoon was filled with single track, double track, downhill trails and some technical hill climbs. The group gathered at the bottom of the big hill climbs to watch everyone attempt to get to the top. The day ended with a short segment of optional technical enduro, before riders headed back at the unload location.
Day 2 – Sunday, September 8
Nine participants began Day 2 with some navigational issues and drizzle. The ride group visited several landmarks including Balancing Rock, Electric City, Snowman’s Corner and a dried up lake bed. A brief history lesson was given at the New France Electric City stop.
The group enjoyed lunch at the sand pit just outside of the New France settlement, and then proceeded to the lake bed. The lake bed offered something for everyone; the sand bars were great for those who wanted to take it easy, while the large rocks and boulders were great for those who wanted an extreme enduro challenge. In total, Day 2 covered 74 km of trail, roads and lakes.
Thanks to NSORRA Rec Ride Sponsors Rallye Motoplex and Backman Heating and Cooling whose sponsorship allowed us to offer this new recreational ride at no additional charge to our members.
Building comraderie with new riding friends
Many of the riders from away had a blast experiencing new riding areas, and expressed interest in having this event turn into an annual rec ride. The organizers would like to thank NSORRA and all of the participants who came and made this event a great success. We hope to see you all again in the near future!

Nick Cottreau is a new NSORRA member from Yarmouth County. After competing in NSORRA hare scrambles, Nick invited his new riding friends to join him and his local riding group to try rec riding in the west end of the province. We plan to make these rides an annual event!
